Mercy Care for the Adirondacks is a mission sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy to provide elders, on a non-denominational basis, with companionship, friendship, and spiritual care. They work to enhance the fullness of the lives of elders by responding to their needs in a holistic manner through its Friendship Volunteer and Parish Nurse Programs. Mercy Care encourages each community to develop facilities, programs, policies, and practices that support a fullness of life of elders in the community. Through its educational forum program and other outreach activities, Mercy Care seeks to promote an understanding of issues and challenges in the lives of elders.
Cloudsplitter Foundation does not support an ongoing operational budget, however awarded Mercy Care $15,000 in 2015 to help with operational expenses. As of 2016, Mercy Care has been added to Cloudsplitter’s annual giving in the amount of $5,000, and was awarded a one-time grant of $10,000 to support the Elder Caregiving in the Adirondacks program.
Mercy Care’s first year goal in 2008 was to attract 12 Frienship Volunteers to assist elders. Since then, Mercy has recruited and trained 145 Friendship Volunteers who have contributed over $24,000 hours of volunteer service, estimated at over $565,440.
Mercy Care is attracting new individual donors, as well as Foundation donors. For the period July 1, 2016 – December 31, 2016 Mercy Care has raised $208,111.95 in foundation contributions compared to $107,000 during the same period in 2015. Evaluation surveys were completed in May 2016 by elders assisted by Mercy Care, Friendship Volunteers, and Parish Nurses. 100% of elders who responded to Mercy Care’s annual elder satisfaction evaluation survey said they would recommend Mercy Care to others.
