Strategic Value
The first grant to AHH joined a NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation grant in the calendar year of 2017 to implement the next steps in establishing a hut to hut system in the Five Towns within the Upper Hudson Recreation Hub.
The first $20,000 grant from the Cloudsplitter Foundation helped to improve and operate the Adirondack Hamlets to Huts Trails Center located on Main Street in Saranac Lake. The funds also helped AHH implement and market its first hut-to-hut route, the North Creek Indian Lake Circuit. The second $3,000 grant sponsored the Adirondack Hamlets to Huts Spring 2018 Test-Run of the first hut-to-hut route to be implemented, the North Creek Indian Lake Circuit. The third $5,000 grant helped finance the development and implementation of Adirondack Hamlets to Huts’ first strategic plan.
About Hamlets to Huts
AHH is a community-based trails and lodging system project currently funded by the New York State Department of State. The mission of AHH is to create, promote and manage a world-class Adirondack hut to hut system that advances sustainable communities, conservation and wellness.
The hut to hut system will help brand the Adirondacks; attract visitors from a more wide-reaching, diverse population; promote conservation in the park and assist in moving hikers from the overly trafficked trails to more unknown and lesser travelled trails.
The AHH Tails Center on Main Street provides information to visitors about the hut-to-hut initiative. In addition, they inform and educate stoppers-by on where to hike, bike and paddle in the ADK and how to travel and camp safely in the backcountry.
