Adirondack Explorer

Strategic Value

The Explorer is the true Adirondack-wide source of serious reporting. Unlike Adirondack Life that is a glossy, feel-good, coffee table book, the Explorer takes on cutting edge issues like road salt pollution, APA reform, rail-to-recreation conversions, and much more. Our grants have helped the Explorer repurpose its material into the recently acquired Adirondack Almanack and into pocket-sized guides for hiking and canoeing.

Grant Analysis

This has been a success. Our funding has helped the Explorer recruit its last two publishers, expand its reportage, and broaden its distribution.

  • Project Size: $100,000
  • Grant Amounts: $15,000 (2015-2018)

The Adirondacks are full of organizations that we love and that are irreplaceable. Cloudsplitter will continue to evaluate and prioritize systemic threats so that we have the resources to respond now and into the future. Given the unknowns of the current funding environment, we wanted to be clear with our grant applicants that we may be less likely to fund capital projects, events, projects far outside the Adirondack park, and very large grant requests at this time. If you feel something in those categories deserves our attention, please contact us to discuss further.
